The Virginia Hunting Dog Owners' Association (VHDOA), the largest statewide group of dog owning sportsmen, today named Delegate Edward T. "Ed" Scott (R-30) its "Virginia Sportsmen's Legislator of the Year ." Scott, a Republican representing Culpeper, Madison and Orange Counties, is the Manager of Agricultural Operations for Culpeper Farmers' Cooperative, Inc. and serves on the General Assembly's House Agriculture and Transportation Committees, as well as the Science and Technology Committee. He is running for reelection unopposed.

Bob Kane, VHDOA's president, indicated that Scott's background, personal approach and 2006-2007 legislative record clearly distinguished him among other worthy General Assembly candidates. Kane continued, "Ed Scott's an unusually attentive, thoughtful and effective legislator. He asks excellent questions and is well respected by his peers. Ed's been a consistent champion of all Virginia animal owners, sportsmen and women. His successful sponsorship of a dog tracking collar removal penalty bill (House Bill 2365) last session was especially notable."

A member of the General Assembly's Legislative Sportsmen's Caucus, Delegate Scott thanked the Virginia Hunting Dog Owner's Association for naming him their Legislator of the Year. "Representing the 30th District with its abundant natural resources and numerous outdoor sporting traditions, it is only natural that my work as Delegate includes being an advocate for sportsmen and women here at home and across the Commonwealth." Scott added, "I appreciate the opportunity to work with a number of like-minded legislators and organizations that care about animals and our sporting heritage."
