Dear Fellow Virginians,
Governor Tim Kaine vetoed seven bills over the weekend, but not HB339. He recommended that HB339 Mandatory Dog Owner Database's effective date be delayed six months, until July 1, 2007. Tim Kaine ignored your privacy violation concerns and the certainty of decreased rabies protection. Instead he focused on the veterinarians' and county treasurers' difficulties in establishing the bill's accounting and dog owner tracking systems. The General Assembly has two choices on April 19th, either accept this single change, or return the bill to him. More details and plans will follow.
