Subject: MAJOR ALERT & ACTION CALL - The biggest wave in the "Perfect Storm"

A VHDOA message to dog owning sportsmen about protecting their traditions, avocations and livelihoods from anti-hunting, anti-breeding, animal guardianship advocates. Forwarding and cross posting, with attribution, encouraged.

Dear Friends,

Here it is. The big wave. Late this afternoon the House Agriculture Animal Subcommittee announced that it would hear fifteen (15) animal bills starting at 7:00 AM on 1/26/2006 in House Room 2, Patrick Henry Building at 11th and East Broad Street, Richmond.

All but one of the 15 bills cause some level concern. I have concluded that this is a lobbying triage situation and that VHDOA will concentrate its opposition on six of the bills. Three involve using spay-neuter as punishment or the forced public funding of unregulated public &/or private spay-neuter programs. Such programs in other states are animal policy failures that frequently degenerate into social "improvement" programs. The other three House AG bills of dramatic concern are new dangerous dog bills, two of which are more terrible than even Sen. Houck's SB200.

With a dawn subcommittee meeting scheduled for Thursday on these bills, you'll have to weigh in by mid-afternoon tomorrow, 1/25. If these kills are killed on Thursday, that's it. They're gone. We don't want to have fight these bills in both chambers for the next six weeks. Please use the updated VHDOA General Assembly contact page at http://vhdoa.uplandbirddog.com/VA.AG.Ctmes.html The individual bills may be accessed via http://vhdoa.uplandbirddog.com/staterk.html

Please forward and cross post widely. The world belongs to those that speak up.

Sincerely,
Bob Kane
